Africa Study Centre in Nigeria has enjoined female Journalists,business owners and students to be technologically savvy to bridge the gender skills gap in their respective fields.
The call was made in Kano at a one-day training in commemoration of International Women’s Day IWD 2023, exploring the topic, Accelerating Digital Literacy for Females in Kano and Skills Training Workshop in tune with the International Women’s Day (IWD) Global theme: DigitalALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.
The Lead of ASCN Dr. Musa Sufi in his paper presentation title "Innovation and Leadership" explained that digital skills will enhance productivity and the effectiveness of women in the workplace.
Vice Lead of ASCN Musa Sani Aliyu, said the training gives women an opportunity to learn about technology that can enhance their work output.
Bello Shehu Maude during a practical session of Microsoft excel to the participants said women have to improve their skills to stay relevant,he emphasized that when women deploy technology to their work, it improves their output.
One of the facilitator's Hannatu Suleiman Abba an investigative and developmental journalist said "For women in the media, it is as important as every female journalist must be a multimedia journalist. You must be able to use all the multimedia platforms to do your work. If you are left behind, then you will lose out on the job, so as women journalists, we must up our skills."
Amina Ibrahim Idris during her paper presentation have discusses on how technology is enabling and enhancing women’s empowerment in Northern Nigeria.
She emphasizes some of the fundamental advantages of social media technologies, such as giving women access to a virtual environment where they may express themselves.
In her remark Hajiya Hadiza Ibrahim an educationist also emphasized on how leveraging technology can help education leapfrog in a number of ways, and can provide individualized learning by tracking progress and personalizing activities to serve heterogeneous classrooms.
Participants at the training drawn from different organizations said the training sharpened their understanding of new opportunities in the tech world, gave a new network window and instilled confidence in them to acquire relevant skills necessary to improve the efficiency in their field.
The event was organized by Africa Study Centre Nigeria in partnership with Arewa Agenda,Sufi Innovation and Development solutions,Adamu Abubakar GWARZO Foundation and MAAUN Student Foundation.
